Being Local & Home Grown with Klimbatize

By Erika de Torres

As an event coordinator for large scale events and concerts in North Vancouver, I’ve had the privilege of working with local emerging bands. One of these bands is called Klimbatize, an alternative rock band based in North Vancouver, who just released their first single on SoundCloud. In a few words, I would describe Klimbatize as fierce, fiery and flipping awesome. Make sure to watch out for them in the near future because I can definitely see them tearing up the stages in Vancouver and beyond with their talent and hard work.

Check out BoC contributor Erika de Torres’ interview with Kilmatize, where we find out about what their thoughts are on the music scene in Vancouver as an emerging band and what they would bring to a deserted island.

How would you individually describe Klimbatize in one word or phrase?

Adam – KABLOOIE!
Frankie – Madness
Anthony – In your face

Who are your musical inspirations?

Adam – John Spencer Blues Explosion, Led Zeppelin, The Who
John – Joey Jordison, Dave Grohl, Mike Portnoy, Frankie Costanza
Frankie – Foo Fighters, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Pearl Jam. I’ve adopted a lot of Chris Cornells technique for singing.
Anthony – Stevie Ray Vaughan, Slash, Carlos Santana, Bjorn Gelotte, Randy Rhodes, The Ventures, Dwayne Eddie, The Offspring, various artists from the 60s to 00s.

How has your experience been for working in the Vancouver music scene?

Adam – I’ve found the other bands to be really cool and supportive of each other.
Frankie – It’s been fun so far. As an actor as well there’s been a lot of cross over with connections. There’s a music scene here that’s starting to grow again, and hopefully we can see a scene revive to become like the 90s again!
Anthony – Vancouver is an interesting city to play music in. There is such a wide variety of talent and many different styles of music to be found. It’s great how supportive bands are towards each other!

If you were all stranded on a deserted island, what’s one thing you would have with you?

Adam– Rope. You can never have enough rope.
John – An axe. I love axes. Have you seen The Hound in the latest GoT season?
Frankie – Hard liquor to disinfect the water. Can’t go long without water!
Anthony – I’d take a plane with me..

Do you have any upcoming shows or releases or production in the future?

John – A couple songs about to be recorded. Really good stuff.
Frankie – We’re gonna be playing at alternative fashion week on November 20th. We’re going into the studio this weekend to record a few great songs.
