The In Between is Where We Lie

Black on the Canvas met Raccoon Fighter at their EP release party on a rooftop in Brooklyn. Their new playlist is a result of capitalizing on a great studio space opportunity. It was crafted mostly in the studio, and since the band is composed of audio engineers it was the perfect environment. The songs were taken from the leftovers of a previous album. They weren’t included because they floated in limbo. It was this status that inspired the title, Hover Craft. Limbo is an uncertain period of awaiting resolution. However, it’s a state that precedes every conclusion.
The rock music that Raccoon Fighter creates is from the gut. They described their process as opening up to the beyond and allowing music to grab you. As an enchanter lets spirits embody them, the band does the same with music. Great sounds come and go. They’re fleeting and have to be snatched from limbo.
“I don’t think that it’s a choice,” Gabe of Raccoon Fighter said concerning what they create. For them, the music is high energy and fun to play. They think little as possible while performing and just go with it. The music is felt, and then instincts kick in. “We want to make music that other people like,” Gabe said.
But the four band members explained to me that their music isn’t gauged by metrics. Results and audiences are irrelevant to them. The music rules the music, and they’re going to play it anyway. Nothing is getting in the way of making music. They’re purists. Devoting their efforts not to image or outcome, but to music. Before something can be finished it must go through a period where it is uncertain of what will become of it. Raccoon Fighter is on a mission to play the music they like and, similar to the material inspiring Hover Craft, are in limbo waiting to see what becomes of them. One thing is for sure, they’re channeling a higher purpose and will continue to play music no matter what because that’s what they’re here for. Godspeed.
